[open RP meme] The "pester Edgeworth in his office" post, Dreamwidth edition

[Chances are, when you enter room 1202 of the Prosecutor's Office, you'll find High Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth hard at work. He learned the hard way not to be too quick to throw people out when they interrupt him, so as annoyed as he probably will be once he notices your presence, you'll more likely than not get a sufficient chance to justify yourself. Usually.]

[To help clarify the purpose of this post, this is someplace anyone can come tag me if they want -- just start a thread and specify Canonworth, TVKworth, or any other preference! Canons, AUs, OCs, and canon OCs welcome, both AA and non-AA!]

[He gets a quizzical look as Akira just goes straight to the sink, washing off his arms with practiced ease. Yeah, he's had to improvise quite a bit, but he's not arguing with getting clean.

Of course, he's inspecting a part of his arm as he cleans it.]

Shit. Went deeper than I thought. Ain't gonna be able to move it too well for a while...

[He seems to be talking to himself rather than Edgeworth.]

Shall I clean your back with these?

[...and that comment earns a frown.] (So that capability of his has limits similar to those of the Dia spells.)

[Again with the weird looks, Edgeworth. But he shrugs a little.]

Sure, can't get it myself. [And as an afterthought, though strangely awkward:] Thanks.

[Not too strange, as he's never been that comfortable with thank yous as anything but an expected formality himself. Edgeworth nods in response, then gently scrubs as best he can given all the scars he's having to take into account.]

You mentioned something about "crusaders" upon your arrival. Can you elaborate?

Crusaders. Big bad gang, used to work freelance for the government. Ain't 'xactly nice guys -- kidnappin' people to use in experiments and sacrifices to a god. 'bout ten thousand total, I think...

[He goes a bit quieter when he talks, as if the memory itself is painful.]

...anyway. Came here lookin' for somethin' to help Kaori. Bastards followed me, tried to take me out. Didn't work, but I couldn't fight 'em all off myself. Saw this place, ran in to hide 'til I could heal up.

(If they once possessed government sanction, particularly if their loss of such status was recent, that would explain how I've never heard of a gang so allegedly large and dangerous -- those who sanctioned them would have taken steps to cover up their activities. Yet to think that anyone involved with the law would stoop so low...!)

Who is Kaori? [Edgeworth sounds inappropriately firm and serious thanks to his train of thought.]

My little sister.

[And Akira sounds defensive and on edge because of it. There's also an odd aggressiveness to his tone underneath it.]

Sick. Ain't doin' good. Dyin' 'cause no one'll help her.

[Edgeworth drops the now-bloodied and used paper towels into a trash can, now that the cleaning is done. His tone as he continues to question Akira is reduced to more normal levels of seriousness for him.]

Your parents can't afford medical treatment? Or do they yet live?

Don't have parents. Mom disappeared, Dad died in a Crusader fight. No one gives a shit 'bout a sick orphan girl.

[His fist clench and he suddenly sounds angry, but it's not directed at Edgeworth.]

...Can't do a thing either! Can't heal diseases.

[His anger fades into something closer to grief and it's questionable if it even remembers Edgeworth is in the room.]

Wounds. Sick. Ain't hard to fix those for other people. I don't get sick. But nothin' else.

Nothin' else.

...I'm sorry. (Asking that question was most certainly a mistake.)

...It's fine.

[He gets it under control after a moment, just rubbing his arm somewhat roughly.]

Just thought there might be somethin' here. Anythin'.

(It doesn't sound remotely close to the sort of thing Forneus is capable of curing with Patra. However, if it's a problem that money alone will solve and his tale withstands scrutiny...)

Where is she now?

Hotel. Taeko'n the other kids came too for a vacation, so she's waitin' there.

(There are a few hotels available, but given his limited means, there is but one realistic possibility...)

I'd like to learn more about this situation for myself; ergo, I would like to pay a visit, if that's all right.

Sure. Just don't yell or anythin', alright? She's real sensitive.

[He's a big brother before a stubborn street kid, after all. There's not a whole lot he can do for his jacket right now, seeing as sinks can't properly clean blood off material, so he just ties it around his waist. Sure, he'll be walking around half naked, but it's probably better than getting pulled over for blood all over his clothing. At least around his waist what couldn't be hidden sort of looked like just part of the coat at a distance...]

Assholes know who she is, so I was gonna check on her anyway. Let's go.

[He makes sure the knot is tight, then starts for the elevator.]

[And once they're most of the way to said elevator, Edgeworth turns and opens the door to the stairs instead... only to notice just how slick with Akira's blood they are. Unease creeps from the pit of his stomach to fill him as he closes the door and approaches the elevator as Akira first silently planned...]

[Well, you did tell the janitor to get to your office first, so what did you expect?

Akira gives Edgeworth a curious glance, shrugging it off as he steps into the elevator once the doors open. He'd prefer the stairs himself too, but there was a reason he didn't go there first.

At least the trip down is mostly uneventful, though Akira looks on guard when he steps out. Seems the janitor got the blood on the ground floor up first, if nothing else...]

[During the trip down, Edgeworth grips the guard rail with one hand hard enough that his knuckles turn white and pointedly looks away from Akira in a transparent attempt to keep his weakness from being too obvious. He heaves a large sigh of relief as he steps out after the boy.]

[Of course, Akira notices it, but he's been in the whole 'hiding weakness' situation before -- he had made it a point to not look at Edgeworth as well, as if he didn't notice a thing.

A quick look around assures him that this place is clear -- not like it would've been hard to figure that out, seeing as they weren't exactly subtle when it came down to it.]

Guess they didn't wanna come in here.

We should head down into the parking garage. Using my car to go to the hotel should make any unwanted encounters easier to avoid.

[Oh, right, people do use cars rather than walk everywhere, don't they? Akira blinks a little, but hooks his fingers in the sleeves of his jacket -- lacking the pockets to shove his hands in for now -- and drops into step beside Edgeworth.]

Sounds good to me.

[And down some mercifully clean steps they go into the small underground parking lot, and through that to a simple red sports car. Edgeworth unlocks and then opens the back door for Akira.]

It would be easier to duck in these seats, should it prove necessary.

[Surprisingly, even Akira knows the wisdom of discretion at times. He starts to get in, pauses, then unties his jacket before doing so, putting it on his lap. Seems he remembers how you flipped out about your couch to the point of trying to be considerate. Who knew?]

Don't remember the hotel name, but it ain't exactly hard to figure out which one a buncha orphan kids are in, right?

Sure, why not?

It does make Forneus hard to summon and limited in usefulness in normal time, but OK!
