[open RP meme] The "pester Edgeworth in his office" post, Dreamwidth edition
[Chances are, when you enter room 1202 of the Prosecutor's Office, you'll find High Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth hard at work. He learned the hard way not to be too quick to throw people out when they interrupt him, so as annoyed as he probably will be once he notices your presence, you'll more likely than not get a sufficient chance to justify yourself. Usually.]
[To help clarify the purpose of this post, this is someplace anyone can come tag me if they want -- just start a thread and specify Canonworth, TVKworth, or any other preference! Canons, AUs, OCs, and canon OCs welcome, both AA and non-AA!]

She fails to fight the urge to take a breath, however - which just leads her to panic (this time not just inwardly), struggling against Edgeworth's arm.]

[Edgeworth's voice is a childish whimper, the frantic plea of a nine-year-old boy in an adult's body. The fact that he's treading water keeps him from getting entirely detached from reality, but it isn't just fear related to the here and now that's getting to him. The prosecutor has to struggle to remember that he needs to get to shore next, and looks around in a squirrel-like manner for the closest shoreline while shifting his grip on Kay to be one-armed.]

Her voice is small and hoarse.]
...Mr. Edgeworth...

Blast!...
[He puts the phone back in the pocket he pulled it from -- and realizes that his suit and his current organizer are probably ruined too in the process -- before turning to look at Kay. There's still too much fear in his eyes for the sternness to completely hide it.]
Kay... are there no bounds to your recklessness?!

[If she hadn't run away from him, she wouldn't have run into that man, wouldn't have been captured, and wouldn't have fallen into that lake to begin with. Kay hangs her head in shame and tiredness, barely meeting Edgeworth's eyes as she manages to pull herself into a sitting position.
He had gone to - or rather, swum - great lengths to save her. If he hadn't found her after they separated, she would have been another sacrifice to this cult they were chasing.
She coughs a bit before whispering:]
I'm...I'm sorry...
...
And thank you...for saving my life...
no subject
Um... yes, of course. ...We should find our way back to my car; you need immediate medical attention.
[That having been said, Edgeworth offers his arm for support.]
no subject
But I'm fine now...and how am I supposed to walk back to your car if I'm still tied up?
[Kay raises her feet from the ground a bit, for emphasis. She knows her knife is several feet under the lake now.]
no subject
[And now he's going to see if he can untie her without tying himself up in the process. Fine manipulation was really more Larry's talent...]
no subject
[She sits as still as she could, watching him try to untie her. If they weren't so serious, Kay would have already made fun of how Edgeworth looked right now, or made a joke.
Instead, her voice is still meek.]
Maybe you could use one of my lock picks instead?
[Kay kind of wishes Edgeworth had held on to her knife, but...never mind.]
no subject
[Edgeworth digs through Kay's bag, soon finding the tools in question and examining them.]
(I never imagined that I'd even once make use of lockpicks as anything other than evidence.)
[After his assessment, he tries using one with a hooked end as leverage to more easily loosen the ropes with.]
no subject
...
Um...are you okay?
no subject
[It's a topic change and he knows it, but he really should endure this on his own... right? Especially since he's not panicking anymore...]
no subject
I'm really, really sorry. And I'm guessing you don't have a towel in your car.
no subject
[By this time, Edgeworth has managed to loosen the ropes around Kay's hands enough to make untying them easy, and proceeds to do so. As much as he's trying to be stoic, though, those steely eyes are still clearly haunted by what just happened...]

No. I believe I heard a splash unrelated to ours, but that's all I know.
