[open RP meme] The "pester Edgeworth in his office" post, Dreamwidth edition
[Chances are, when you enter room 1202 of the Prosecutor's Office, you'll find High Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth hard at work. He learned the hard way not to be too quick to throw people out when they interrupt him, so as annoyed as he probably will be once he notices your presence, you'll more likely than not get a sufficient chance to justify yourself. Usually.]
[To help clarify the purpose of this post, this is someplace anyone can come tag me if they want -- just start a thread and specify Canonworth, TVKworth, or any other preference! Canons, AUs, OCs, and canon OCs welcome, both AA and non-AA!]

[That further consideration doesn't seem to help.]

[Kay, whatever you're doing, it's not working. It's making things worse.
...in any case, her voice trails off. She's most likely as shaken as he is and trying not to show it, trying to deal with it her own way.
Still, that silence speaks volumes.]
That's...
[That silence told her he didn't know. And he still went for it.]

[Edgeworth turns his head away and firmly grabs his left elbow with his right hand as he says this, quivering from a mix of emotion and cold.]
no subject
No, that's not what I meant!
[She strides forward so she's facing him now, hands balled into fists.]
no subject
[The hand around Edgeworth's elbow, as well as his teeth and eyes, all clench tighter.]
no subject
H-hey, Mr. Edgeworth...what's important is that I'm alive, and we're both alive, right?
[Kay looks up at him, almost pleading.]
We're...we're okay now. We can still finish this case and everything.
What I meant to say was that...what you did was amazing.
[If Kay respected him before, she respects him even more now.]

And then that compliment, that completely ridiculous compliment, comes out, prompting Edgeworth's eyes to pop open and his gaze to fix on Kay in disbelief. He goes still in shock.]
Wh...what?!
no subject
[She tries to smile a little (for both their sakes), and lets go of him.]
That has got to be the single most amazing thing you've done, and I think you still would've thought of something.

I've done far more impressive things in court than recklessly diving into a lake and saved more lives in single cases than I did here! Furthermore, by the time I'd freed you, I could barely think at all -- how do you propose that I would have thought of something else given that I had so little useful time in which to do so?!
no subject
You know what I mean! Geez, my point is, you still did it and saved my life - and if you hadn't...if you hadn't...
[Kay's shoulders shake. She can't take it anymore; she was scared when she first fell off the ledge, when she sank to the bottom, and she had been scared for Edgeworth...
She steps forward and hugs him tightly. Never mind that she was still soaked; both of them were. It made no difference.]

[She had gotten him to move when he had frozen to the spot after Calisto got out her gun, seven years ago. Now, he had paid her back.
But she still doesn't let go.]
no subject
I... er, yes. I suppose so.
...Kay, why are you clinging to me?
no subject
[If possible, her grip becomes tighter, and her shoulders shake again as she holds back tears.]
I'm j-just so g-glad we're...we're both alive...and I...
[No. She had to smile. She had to hold her head up. They survived. But...she couldn't smile right now.]

[After a moment's hesitation, Edgeworth... well, basically just lays his own arms on Kay's back awkwardly. It's an incredible failure of a return hug, but...]

[Kay just buries her face in his shoulder, taking deep breaths to keep herself from crying. At least this time she had more control over her emotions.]

We should continue to the hospital...
[This physical contact thing was still incredibly awkward, but if it meant that much to Kay...]
...er, once you're ready, that is.
no subject
[Actually, she wasn't ready yet.]
That was really scary...

She sighs. Saying it out loud - that everything that had happened was scary - did help.]
I mean...I think this beats the time Miss Yew put a gun against my head.
no subject
...I've... experienced worse.
[And that's all he intends to say about it.]
no subject
[She just stares at him, though, unsure whether or not to press for details. It's most likely not the time, but...she's worried for him.]
Keywords. ;)
[Without even waiting for any movement or indication of agreement on Kay's part, Edgeworth quickly turns and keeps walking. He sneezes once, but shakes it off while digging out his (soaked) handkerchief.]
...yup, she's changing it.
[Kay hurries to catch up until she's walking side by side with him again.]
I hope neither of us catch a cold...
