[Chances are, when you enter room 1202 of the Prosecutor's Office, you'll find High Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth hard at work. He learned the hard way not to be too quick to throw people out when they interrupt him, so as annoyed as he probably will be once he notices your presence, you'll more likely than not get a sufficient chance to justify yourself. Usually.]

[To help clarify the purpose of this post, this is someplace anyone can come tag me if they want -- just start a thread and specify Canonworth, TVKworth, or any other preference! Canons, AUs, OCs, and canon OCs welcome, both AA and non-AA!]

[Edgeworth digs through Kay's bag, soon finding the tools in question and examining them.]

(I never imagined that I'd even once make use of lockpicks as anything other than evidence.)

[After his assessment, he tries using one with a hooked end as leverage to more easily loosen the ropes with.]

[She's silent while he finds her lock picks and starts using one on the ropes. Kay watches his progress for a bit.]

...

Um...are you okay?

...I'll be all right. My notes are almost certainly ruined along with my cellphone and this suit, but enough evidence exists at this site.

[It's a topic change and he knows it, but he really should endure this on his own... right? Especially since he's not panicking anymore...]

[And he wouldn't have ruined any of it if she hadn't gotten herself captured and almost sacrificed.]

I'm really, really sorry. And I'm guessing you don't have a towel in your car.

Indeed not -- we'll both have to endure the cold.

[By this time, Edgeworth has managed to loosen the ropes around Kay's hands enough to make untying them easy, and proceeds to do so. As much as he's trying to be stoic, though, those steely eyes are still clearly haunted by what just happened...]

...What about that guy? Did you see what happened to him?

[truthsnomiracle]

(Blast, he slipped my mind in my desperation to save Kay!)

No. I believe I heard a splash unrelated to ours, but that's all I know.

[yatagarasu]

He got away?! [She perks up - and not in a good way.] I think he has our map...I saw it in his pocket, unless he dropped it before he jumped off the ledge...

Unfortunately, we're in no physical condition to pursue someone equipped to easily subdue another. You in particular still need medical attention.

[yatagarasu]

But I feel fine! Now, I mean!

[truthsnomiracle]

Under the circumstances, that may not last, particularly if you attempt to push your limits! I wish to wrest the truth from his grasp as much as you do, Kay, but I also wish to see you retain the life I just went to such lengths to save!

[yatagarasu]

[That shuts her up. She bites her lip and decides to focus on her ankles instead.

He has a point.]

[truthsnomiracle]

[Speaking of those, now that Kay's listening to reason, let's get to work on those ropes too...

It takes him a couple of minutes, but he does ultimately manage to loosen those ropes enough to untie too. That being done, he hands the lockpick back, then stands.]

We should make our way back to where I parked.

[yatagarasu]

[Kay takes the lock pick and stashes it back into her bag. Then she finally manages to stand up. Her expression is a little weary, quite a bit meek...and she's doing her best to not look afraid or anxious.

Because honestly? The sight of the dead bodies at the bottom of the lake and the fact that she could have died...are two things that won't leave her easily.]

Right.

[truthsnomiracle]

[Edgeworth looks out over the lake to locate the pier and the familiar shade of red by it, then begins to walk along the shore towards it as best the terrain allows. He shivers occasionally as he trudges along, and his grim expression is only interrupted by occasional glances around for ambushes or other dangers.]

[yatagarasu]

[Kay is shivering too as she brings up the rear.]

...how long was I out?

[truthsnomiracle]

Um...

(It's strange to look back on a moment and not easily be able to gauge how long it must have taken. Perhaps if I walk myself through the events...)

[Edgeworth shudders as he forces himself to think through what happened.]

I-I would estimate... a-anywhere from o-one to two m-minutes.

[yatagarasu]

Oh.

... [She notices him stutter.]

Are you sure you're okay?

[truthsnomiracle]

I'll be fine.

[yatagarasu]

[She takes a step back. He looks like he means business.]

Okay, okay! No need to get glare-y on me again!

[truthsnomiracle]

[Edgeworth breaks off the glare and sighs.]

We'll be headed straight for the hospital once we're in the car. I can call the police with an update from there.

[yatagarasu]

[Kay nods once, and hurries to walk beside him, her boots making squishing noises as she goes.]

I hope they believe our story. The only evidence we got was...well...

[Yeah.]

We even lost that map. Unless he dropped it before escaping.

...The evidence beneath the waves is extensive.

Yeah.

[Kay's voice is soft.]

Good thing I had that knife with me today...

Yep.
