[open RP meme] The "pester Edgeworth in his office" post, Dreamwidth edition

[Chances are, when you enter room 1202 of the Prosecutor's Office, you'll find High Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth hard at work. He learned the hard way not to be too quick to throw people out when they interrupt him, so as annoyed as he probably will be once he notices your presence, you'll more likely than not get a sufficient chance to justify yourself. Usually.]

[To help clarify the purpose of this post, this is someplace anyone can come tag me if they want -- just start a thread and specify Canonworth, TVKworth, or any other preference! Canons, AUs, OCs, and canon OCs welcome, both AA and non-AA!]

To be honest, I'd agree. It's not that complex of a case, even. I'd write it myself but it seems like he wants you to do it.

[He glances down at the papers again.]

He seems to have forgotten some of the basics, though - such as actually establishing a motive that makes sense.

[He hands it over, nodding.]

They are. His work is pretty sloppy, but if you need some additional details, I've been following the case on my own - if you'd accept my input.

[The report is, as he said, poorly written. There's some scribbled notes about 'gun out of nowhere' and something along the lines of 'kid knows something?', but nothing of much value.]

Miss Dee Jones was returning from her job at a bar late at night when she was attacked by a young man on the street. The man was later identified as a Mister Ralph Ender, who shot her twice in the chest and then fled the scene. Ender was identified later by the gun, which was found at the scene. His fingerprints matched those on the gun, and he's been arrested for robbery before so his prints were on file.

The only question is why. I have a hunch, though Prosecutor Adams told me I was on the wrong track. I don't think so, though.

It does, in some ways. There's many ways to come across a gun illegally - if you know whom to talk to. My concern is less about the gun and more about the motive.

[He hesitates a moment, and then pulls a binder out from his bag. It's orange, once bright but faded from what look to be years of use. He flips it open and opens the clasps, pulling a laminated copy of a news article out.]

[The article dates three years prior, and is a small blurb from the local police beat.]

Ender's mother was killed by Jones' brother. I know the last name is common, but I looked up the names and Peter Jones is the twin brother of Dee Jones. He's currently in jail for manslaughter. It's clear to me that this is a case of a desire for vengeance - and since he couldn't get to the real culprit, he decided to go for his sister.

[He smiles sadly.]

It's... a case like this that made me decide to study law in the first place, to be honest.

Of course. But it's pretty likely.

[... What the hell. It's relevant to the case.]

I know not everyone reacts to things in the same way, but I went after my mother's killer like this. I got stopped, but it's not an uncommon reaction. I'd question the suspect myself, but I'm not even close to having clearance for it - I've still got a year and a half until I can get my degree.

I was young and stupid, to put it lightly. Very, very young.

[He nods, though he manages to look a tiny bit smug.]

I've put in a request to visit Peter Jones. Ender unfortunately seems to live alone and not talk to anyone, but I'm trying to get access to his apartment building to talk to his neighbors. I've suggested visiting Ender's apartment, though - if he's thinking the way I think he's thinking, then there should be enough evidence to support my theory.

Hopefully.

[... He realizes he's been intruding possibly too long.]

I hope this is helpful. I'm sorry for taking up so much of your time, Prosecutor Edgeworth.

I'm glad, then. But yes? What is it?
summum_ius: (hey wait what)

[personal profile] summum_ius 2012-06-24 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
... I don't think so. Not directly, anyway.

It's all right. I'll see you around, Prosecutor Edgeworth.

[He heads towards the door.]
