[Chances are, when you enter room 1202 of the Prosecutor's Office, you'll find High Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth hard at work. He learned the hard way not to be too quick to throw people out when they interrupt him, so as annoyed as he probably will be once he notices your presence, you'll more likely than not get a sufficient chance to justify yourself. Usually.]

[To help clarify the purpose of this post, this is someplace anyone can come tag me if they want -- just start a thread and specify Canonworth, TVKworth, or any other preference! Canons, AUs, OCs, and canon OCs welcome, both AA and non-AA!]

Even if it isn't finished enough to keep people and Shadows out, I should be able to make up the difference as long as it isn't actively dangerous.

*Lots, Edgeworth. You've really only seen the tip of the iceberg.*

Alright. Should I meet you there?

Indeed, I'll see you then.

[Out comes the organizer and pen; he writes an address quickly, then tears out the page and hands it over. That being done, he heads for the door.]

*Unlike last time, he'll leave through the door too, although he'll be taking the elevator down to the ground floor.

When Edgeworth gets to the half built teahouse, Allen will be sitting on the curb outside it, still in his blue haired disguise.*

[Knowing that he can't get any tea from a business that's yet to open, when Edgeworth arrives it's not just in his combat garb -- which most notably features a stiff burgundy trenchcoat, a dark grey bulletproof vest, heavy-duty grey knee pads, and a glaive strapped across his back -- but with a travel mug in his hand at well which he's sipping from.]

Good evening. As it happens, no locks are installed on the doors as yet, though I've received Miss Nakagawa's permission nonetheless.

[temptestament]

*He pushes himself to his feet and dusts himself off, looking nothing like a being who could easily shift to a standing position without any physical effort.*

I don't think missing locks are really going to be a problem.

[truthsnomiracle]

Indeed not. So long as we don't go out of our way to attract their attention, the Shadows will overlook us while we're inside -- and even if we did, they aren't polite enough to use a door.

[By the time he's finished saying this, Edgeworth has passed this unusual Allen and made it to the front door, which he opens.]

[temptestament]

*He's content to let Edgeworth go inside first. And seeing as this outfit has no cape to snag, he has nothing to fear from the door.*

I think I envy this world for how easy to avoid its monsters are...

[truthsnomiracle]

[Edgeworth does so, then closes the door after Allen.]

Given that there were no such creatures in Oxford during the Dark Hour, I'm led to believe that they aren't a normal feature of this world to begin with.

[Edgeworth glances at his watch. It won't be long now...]

So something-or someone-has to be creating them to attack the people here...

*This...is not an amused face.*

OBJECTION!

The flaw in that theory is that the natives transform into impenetrable coffins during the Dark Hour. Only kidnappees are at any risk -- and for reasons we fail to understand, our own deaths here are impermanent.

[temptestament]

*He jumps at that shout, very briefly tensing as if he's expecting something unpleasant to follow before he just stares for a moment.*

Did you really have to shout like that?

*But he shakes his head and addresses Edgeworth's complaints.*

You said someone called this whole thing a test, right? If that's true, then the point of the Shadows might not be to actually threaten you, but to put you on edge and take you outside your comfort zone. In that case, it wouldn't matter that they can't hurt the natives or that you don't stay dead as long as you're still unsettled by monsters creeping around every night.

[truthsnomiracle]

[In response to the question, this alternate Allen only receives a chilly look from Edgeworth.

As for the counterargument, though...]

While I'll concede that's a possibility, it still doesn't necessarily mean they were created for that purpose. Given the implications of a certain series of more anomalous Shadows, it's possible that the Shadows are a product of denied aspects of the natives. However, that fails to explain why they're primarily if not entirely found here on Prospero. Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in between.

*This eye roll in response to the look is clearly calling you a drama queen.*

So not created, but summoned, kind of like the Gnosis terrorism...

*He looks out the window with a frown, watching for the moment when things change.*

[truthsnomiracle]

[If he's guilty, so is his whole world... Which it is.]

"Terrorism"? (The Allen I know has mentioned "Gnosis" before, but nothing connecting it to terrorism.)

A period of time when someone managed to take control of naturally occurring monsters and direct them to attack major cities. The whole thing got pretty nasty until Ms. Uzuki and her friends caught the guy behind it and got rid of what he was using to control them.

[truthsnomiracle]

I see.

[With those disapproving words and a deathly serious glare, there's a sudden shift in the lighting and cutoff of ambient noise from outside. The buildings are dark, vehicles have stopped cold, and coffins dot the landscape. The sea breeze soon shifts to a coppery scent...]

[temptestament]

*He feels much the same way about the person who did all that, but he at least knows the guy was stopped.

When everything changes, he turns tense and alert.*

It smells like a battlefield here...

*Or worse. Despite Edgeworth's claim that they'll be safe indoors, he can't help but feel uneasy. His hand closes around empty air and a futuristic crossbow appears in it, lacking a string or visible means of loading but possessing a faintly glowing tip. Unlike the light crossbow the Allen Edgeworth knows uses, this is clearly based off of a heavy crossbow and looks by all means like it should take two hands to even hold it.*

[truthsnomiracle]

[Edgeworth raises an eyebrow at that improbably large weapon, but nods and takes his glaive from his back himself, looking out at the altered landscape awash in dim greenish ambient lighting.]

That's the result of how water transforms during this time. It won't be long before Shadows make their way to this area from the business district.

[temptestament]

*To be fair, it wouldn't be all that unusually large if it were made out of wood. It's just being made out of metal that makes it ridiculously heavy.*

And you're sure they won't come in here?

[truthsnomiracle]

[Edgeworth points over to a foul-weather kit in the corner.]

If we use the tarps to cover the windows, that would greatly decrease the chance that we'll be noticed.

[temptestament]

*He shakes his head.* I want to actually see them, if you're alright with the risk.

[truthsnomiracle]

If only firsthand observation will suffice, then I shall do my best to help if we are noticed. Forneus, present yourself!

[At his demand, a blue manta ray that's white underneath rises out from his back, unfolding as though it were an unseen cloak and floating up to a foot above him. Edgeworth then turns to the windows, puts his free hand on his glaive, and lowers the weapon into position, the blade pointing forward.]

*He watches with interest as he lifts his own weapon into position, the glow at the tip intensifying as he feeds enough energy in to load it.*
